Mufulira Central Member of Parliament Golden Mwila has accused Patriotic Front (PF) Youth Chairperson Gift Chibale of misleading aspiring candidates to contest the parliamentary seat on the PF ticket.
Mr. Mwila alleges that Mr. Chibale recently appeared on a political programme on Mafken Radio in the company of a named politician, an appearance he claims amounted to an indirect endorsement, despite the party not having formally adopted a candidate for the seat.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, Mr. Mwila said he has evidence of the alleged conduct, which he described as being contrary to party expectations and internal procedures.
He stressed that party officials should be focused on safeguarding the interests of the PF and its eventual adopted candidate, rather than engaging in actions that could be interpreted as support for an independent contender.
However, PF Youth Chairperson Gift Chibale has dismissed the allegations, insisting that he did not endorse any independent candidate.
Mr. Chibale explained that the individual in question is a PF member who is exercising his democratic right to express interest in the parliamentary seat. He added that the party will, in due course, formally adopt a single candidate to contest the election.
He further stated that he intends to engage Mr. Mwila to clarify the matter and resolve the issue amicably.
