The Non governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has condemned the production and circulation of obscene material allegedly involving a female social media personality.
NGOCC Executive Director Anne Anamela said the organisation is deeply concerned by the ease with which obscene content is produced and shared on social media, warning that it can have devastating and long-lasting consequences, particularly for young people.
Ms. Anamela has urged parents and guardians to play a greater role in guiding children and young people towards responsible behaviour both online and offline.
She also called on men and young women to uphold moral values, saying the pursuit of social media fame should never come at the expense of one’s dignity, reputation or future.
She has further called on the Zambia Police Service to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure anyone found wanting is held accountable in accordance with the law.
