The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) is promoting the use of standardized measuring instruments, including the traditional “Meda,” in a bid to enhance fairness and transparency in trade.
ZMA Executive Director Humphrey Nkobeni has emphasized that accurate measurements are critical to protecting both traders and consumers, noting that the agency is rolling out a pilot project to test standardized containers in selected markets across the country.
Speaking to Mafken News in Lusaka, Mr. Nkobeni said the procurement process for accurate measuring instruments is at an advanced stage.
He explained that once the process is concluded, the instruments will initially be distributed to traders free of charge, as part of efforts to encourage compliance and promote fair trading practices.
