RTSA Cashless Transition Draws Mixed Reactions

By Jotham Likomeno,

Commuters in Mufulira District on the Copperbelt have expressed mixed reactions to the Road Transport and Safety Agency’s (RTSA) decision to transition to a cashless payment system.

RTSA announced on Monday, February 9, 2025, that all payments for its services will move to a cashless platform, with the system set to take effect on 1st March, 2026.

Following the announcement, some commuters in Mufulira have welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step towards efficiency and transparency.

However, others have urged RTSA to implement the system gradually, citing challenges such as limited public sensitization, network failures, and delays within banking systems that could affect service delivery.

They have emphasized the need for adequate preparation and awareness to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the implementation date.
