The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested two more officials from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, bringing the total number of suspects to nine in an ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of 10 million US dollars under the Sustainable Livestock Infrastructure Management Project.
The suspects, Succeed Mubanga, Director of Policy, Planning and Information, and Chanda Mulenga, a Stores Officer, have been charged with possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and concealment of property, contrary to the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.
The Commission says investigations indicate that part of the project funds meant for livestock infrastructure development were allegedly diverted through illegal transactions and property acquisitions.
According to the ACC, suspected proceeds of crime linked to Mr. Mubanga are estimated at about 11.1 million kwacha and include a motor vehicle, government bond investments and a house. Meanwhile, Ms. Mulenga is reportedly linked to a modern house in Kasama.
The two suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court soon. The Commission has also moved to restrict and seize several assets connected to the case, adding that more arrests are likely as investigations continue.
