The Comedians Association of Zambia (CAOZ) has expressed optimism that the monetization of Facebook in Zambia will help grow the country’s comedy industry and improve livelihoods for content creators.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, CAOZ Secretary General Mr. Ginnethon Shandele said many comedians depend entirely on their craft for survival, often forcing them to accept branding deals with companies regardless of potential implications.
He explained that while such deals provide short-term income, Facebook monetisation would help bridge the earnings gap for many creatives and offer more sustainable income streams.
Mr. Shandele also commended the government, through the National Arts Council under the Ministry of Youth, Arts and Sports, for implementing policies aimed at improving the comedy industry.
Meanwhile, 2025 Most Outstanding Comedian Ngoma Award winner Paul Chimbula, popularly known as King Paul and Bashi Junior, described Zambia’s comedy industry as conducive for growth, but said the absence of monetisation policies remains one of the biggest challenges facing creatives.
