Infrastructure Minister Orders Safety Inspection on Chingola–Kasumbalesa Road After Kakoso Bridge Collapse

By Rogan Labika,

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development – Charles Milupi

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi, has instructed AVIC International to conduct a comprehensive safety inspection of the Chingola–Chililabombwe–Kasumbalesa Road following the collapse of the Kakoso Bridge, which has brought traffic to a standstill on the vital trade corridor.

The directive comes in the wake of the bridge failure, which has severely disrupted the movement of goods and heavy-duty traffic along the route.

Speaking after inspecting the site, Mr. Milupi said the collapse should serve as a serious warning, stressing the urgent need for a full safety inspection of the entire road corridor to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Minister further urged the concessionaire to ensure that the bypass is completed within the promised 48-hour window, emphasizing the importance of restoring traffic flow as quickly as possible.

However, AVIC International has assured authorities that the bypass will be completed by tomorrow, allowing heavy-duty trucks to resume transit across the affected section of the road.
