By Morgan Chomba,

The Mansa Municipal Council has reported a fire incident that occurred on February 21, 2026, at a commercial complex in Namwandwe Township, opposite Namwandwe Catholic Church.

In a statement made available to Mafken News, Council Public Relations Officer Norman Kashi said the fire broke out around 09:26 hours and affected one of the four shops at the complex.

The incident was reported by a resident, Mr. Christopher Kaunda, prompting a swift response from the Mansa Fire Brigade.

Property worth K50,000 was destroyed, including a motorcycle, mattress, plastic items, electrical cables, and beddings. However, property valued at K850,000 was successfully saved due to the quick intervention of the fire brigade.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected cause of the fire was phone battery boosting.

The Council has since cautioned the public against unsafe electrical practices and urged residents to observe fire safety measures and report emergencies promptly.
