CPCR Calls for Urgent Passage of Tobacco Control Bill to Protect Public Health

By Anthony Chomba,

The Centre for Primary Care Research (CPCR) has intensified calls for the swift passage of the Tobacco Control Bill, describing it as a critical step toward safeguarding public health in Zambia.

CPCR Executive Director, Faston Goma, said tobacco use remains a major public health concern and requires urgent legislative intervention to protect citizens, particularly young people and vulnerable communities.

Speaking in Lusaka, Prof. Goma stressed that strong collaboration between policymakers, civil society organisations, and the media is essential to ensure the successful passage of the Bill and the promotion of a healthier nation.

He noted that the proposed legislation would strengthen tobacco regulation, reduce preventable diseases, and contribute to long-term improvements in national health outcomes.
