The Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) has commended the implementation of the Catch Up Education Programme, saying it is making a significant impact in addressing Zambia’s learning crisis.
ZANEC Executive Director George Hamusunga said the programme has contributed to notable improvements in literacy and numeracy skills among learners since its introduction.
He made the remarks during a visit by education leaders to Nkwashi Primary School in Kabwe District, where stakeholders observed firsthand how the Ministry of Education-led Catch Up Programme is helping learners improve their reading and numeracy levels.
Mr. Hamusunga expressed satisfaction that the programme is also being implemented outside normal school hours, making it more accessible to learners who are falling behind academically.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Education Director of Primary Education, Felix Ngoma, said the programme has strengthened teacher capacity through training and mentoring, enabling educators to effectively implement the initiative and better support learners.
Mr. Ngoma added that regular assessments and monitoring help identify learning gaps and ensure targeted support, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the programme.
