The Zambia Chamber of Mines has announced that Zambia will host the 2026 International Mine Rescue Competition, a milestone event that will bring over 500 international delegates to the country.

Speaking during the National Media Launch for the 2026 International Mines Rescue Competition (IMRC)-Chief Executive Officer Sokwani Chilembo says the hosting rights, awarded to Zambia for the first time in the competition’s 100-year history, reflect the country’s strong mining industry, governance, and commitment to safety excellence.

Mr. Chilembo says the competition, scheduled for April 25 to May 7, 2026, will cost around $750,000 to host. He emphasizes that the event is a national showcase, highlighting Zambia’s culture, hospitality, and tourism potential.

Zambia has been an affiliate member of the International Mine Rescue Board since 2011 and has invested in skills transfer to meet international standards.
