Mother and Three Children Escape Injury in Train Collision in Kitwe

By Respite Kaoma,

A woman and her three children narrowly escaped serious injury after a train struck their vehicle at a railway crossing on A Road in Ndeke’s Amis area in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt.

The incident occurred around 17:00 hours and is believed to have been caused by heavy traffic congestion following an earlier accident involving a truck at 16 Feet along the main road դեպի the town centre. The congestion reportedly affected surrounding routes, including the road from Nkana East to Ndeke Village.

Eyewitnesses told Mafken News that the woman’s vehicle was trapped in a queue of cars at the crossing, with vehicles both ahead and behind, leaving her unable to move as the train approached. The train struck the front left side of the car, forcing it into a nearby drainage ditch.

Eyewitness Kennedy Mwape said the blockage on both sides of the crossing left the driver with no room to manoeuvre.

Despite the impact, the woman and her three children escaped without serious injuries. Efforts to speak to the driver at the scene were unsuccessful, as she was reportedly still in shock.
