Jia You International, the contractor tasked with the construction of the Mufulira-Mokambo road has announced that works will officially continue only after the current rainy season concludes.
The announcement comes in response to growing concerns from road users who have questioned the contractor’s absence from the site in recent weeks.
In a telephone interview, Chief Engineer Yang Hanzhang explained that the suspension is a technical necessity.
However, the contractor has assured the public that once the weather permits, the remaining works will be completed within a seven-month period.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo has called on the contractor to prepare for a swift return to the site.
Mr. Matambo emphasized that the project must be treated with urgency to ensure it is finalized before the onset of the next rainy season.
The Minister expressed his sympathies to the motorists and local residents who endure significant transport challenges every year due to the road’s condition.
