Students from 20 higher learning institutions on the Copperbelt have invited President Hakainde Hichilema to interact with them this Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Copperbelt University in Kitwe.
The engagement is expected to bring together student leaders to discuss challenges and possible solutions with the Head of State.
Speaking at a media briefing, Immediate Past CBU Student Union President Royd Nsonga said students appreciate the President’s reforms in the education sector and view the meeting as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with government.
CBU Student Union President Given Chipeyo praised government support to the institution, including the commissioning of a 1,000-seater auditorium and planned donations of an ambulance, bus and water tank. He added that the President’s patronage has helped unlock hostel facilities that had remained unused for years.
Mukuba University and Kitwe College of Education student leaders have also welcomed the engagement, while appealing for continued support towards infrastructure development and female education.
Students have since encouraged their colleagues to turn up in large numbers for the interaction.
Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will visit the Copperbelt Province this Sunday.
Mr. Matambo says the President will engage students from 20 higher learning institutions at Copperbelt University, where he is expected to interact with the student community.
Speaking in Ndola, the Minister said the visit highlights the government’s commitment to education as a key driver of national development.
The engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for students and stakeholders to interact directly with the Head of State.
