Kitwe High Court Jails Mayweather for Abduction and Assault

By Respite Kaoma,

The Kitwe High Court has sentenced 17-year-old Tokota, popularly known as “Mayweather,” to detention at Katombora Reformatory School for his role in a brutal abduction and assault case.

High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Enias Chulu, handed down the sentence today after finding Mayweather guilty of abduction, causing bodily harm, and other related offences committed on April 30, 2018.

The court heard that Mayweather, a known gang leader, acted in concert with others to unlawfully abduct a fellow juvenile and subject him to inhumane treatment. The victim was physically assaulted, forced to ingest faecal matter, and sustained grievous bodily harm.

In delivering judgment, Justice Chulu described the offences as serious and deserving of a custodial sentence.

The judge further noted that neither Mayweather nor his family showed remorse or offered an apology to the victim, despite the gravity of the crimes committed.

Justice Chulu ordered that Mayweather be detained at Katombora Reformatory School for rehabilitation and reformation, with the objective of enabling him to reform and reintegrate into society as a responsible citizen.
