Speaking to Mafken News, Rock Mechanics Specialist Daniel Mabeti stressed the need for strict and professional geotechnical practices to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Dr. Mabeti said engineers must prioritise accurate geological and geotechnical data collection, comprehensive site investigations, and thorough testing before project implementation.

He added that careful design execution, continuous monitoring, and routine maintenance are critical to ensuring infrastructure safety and durability.

Dr. Mabeti also emphasized the importance of clear communication among engineers, contractors, and relevant authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
