Four drivers have been apprehended and charged with various traffic offences after allegedly bypassing a traffic check point in Mongu District while attached to a convoy of Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile.
Western Province Police Commanding Officer Rae Hamoonga says the vehicles were later intercepted along the Mongu–Lusaka Road following a pursuit by traffic officers and the drivers were directed to Mongu Central Police Station where they were formally charged under the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. Hamoonga said the offences included failure to obey traffic signals, expired road tax, expired insurance and expired test certificates. Three of the drivers admitted the offences and paid admission of guilt fines, and their vehicles were cleared.
He further explained that one vehicle was impounded and the matter referred to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations.
