The Commuter Rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) President, Aaron Kamuti, says stakeholders in the transport sector have struggled to put in place a system that effectively responds to monthly fuel price adjustments.
Mr. Kamuti told MAFKEN News that the absence of such a mechanism has contributed to the continued stability of bus fares, despite the recent reduction in fuel prices.
He noted that frequent fuel price reviews make it difficult for transport operators to promptly adjust fares without a structured and predictable framework.
Meanwhile, Government has announced plans to move from the current monthly fuel price review system to a quarterly mechanism, a move Mr. Kamuti believes could help create more stability in fare adjustments.
He added that should fuel prices continue to decline in the coming month, there is a strong possibility that bus fares may eventually be reduced.
