Police in Mufulira have detained a 37-year-old man, Samuel Lusale of Kantanshi Township, for allegedly causing alarm in an incident involving suspected witchcraft claims.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi said the matter was reported after a 26-year-old man, Musonda Musonda, alleged that his male reproductive organ had disappeared after an unknown man jumped on his back and uttered words as he was heading home around 21:00 hours on March 17, 2026.
Mr. Yuyi explained that the situation caused panic among members of the public after a bystander claimed the suspect had made the victim’s private parts disappear, leading to mob action. The suspect was later rescued by the victim’s family and handed over to police.
When questioned, Lusale reportedly stated that he believed his actions were part of a joke or acting scenario.
Meanwhile, the alleged victim has been issued with a medical report and taken to hospital for verification, while Lusale remains in police custody for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. Investigations are ongoing.
