Copperbelt Provincial Health Director Dr. Charles Mwinuna says the province has made significant progress in the fight against HIV, by achieving a 93-93-98 treatment cascade towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. Kitwe recorded about 1,800 new HIV infections in 2025, followed by Ndola with more than 1,600 cases, Mufulira with over 600, and Chingola with at least 400, making the four districts among the Copperbelt’s HIV hotspots.
Despite the high infection rates, Copperbelt Provincial Health Director Dr Charles Mwinuna says the province has achieved a 93-93-98 HIV treatment cascade, moving closer to the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets.
He says health authorities are expanding access to HIV prevention services, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), while urging the media to help raise awareness and combat misinformation to reduce new HIV infections.
Meanwhile, Clinical Care Specialist Dr Elijah Kabelenga has called for intensified HIV prevention interventions in the province’s hotspot districts.
