National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) running mate Makebi Zulu has called for investigations into alleged partisan conduct by civil servants, claiming some public officials are working to influence the outcome of the August 13 general elections.
He described McPherson Mukuka as a “hero” for allegedly exposing conduct that he said is of public interest, arguing that the allegations warrant scrutiny to safeguard free and fair elections.
Mr. Zulu accused the UPND administration of tolerating political involvement by civil servants while allegedly penalising those perceived to support the opposition.
He further criticised the recruitment of individuals at political rallies, describing the practice as an abuse of public office and alleging it amounts to using government jobs to secure political support.
The NRPUP running mate said his party would reform the civil service to ensure promotions and employment are based strictly on merit rather than political affiliation.
He added that while jobs already awarded would not be withdrawn if the party formed government, employment opportunities would be made accessible to all qualified Zambians regardless of political affiliation.
Mr. Zulu also pledged to strengthen the Office of the Public Protector and introduce greater protection for whistleblowers, adding that the NRPUP government will uphold freedom of expression and strengthen institutional accountability
