A fatal accident at Mimbula Mine in Chingola, Copperbelt Province, has claimed the life of a 36-year-old miner.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Eddie Funda, a Process Plant Operator, who was struck by a metal plate that detached from a feeder at Conveyor Belt 20 while he was assisting with the unblocking of choked material.
In a statement availed to Mafken News, Mimbula Minerals Limited Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Officer Ian Chomba confirmed the incident, which occurred at around 08:41 hours today, February 25, 2026.
Mr. Chomba said operations in the affected area have since been suspended, and the site secured to allow for a full investigation into the accident.
He explained that during the operation, a metal plate detached from the feeder and struck Mr. Funda on the neck, resulting in fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi said the victim was rushed to Nchanga South Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr. Yuyi added that police officers visited the scene and confirmed the report, stating that an inquiry file has been opened and a postmortem will be conducted on the body of the deceased.
