Some residents of Mufulira District have expressed mixed reactions regarding their confidence in the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as the August general election approaches.
Mulimbwe Butala told Mafken News he is confident the Commission will deliver a free and fair election and produce credible results, despite what he described as minor challenges.
However, Charles Chibeka and Misheck Chola said they lack confidence in ECZ, citing recent political tensions and governance concerns.
They further alleged that the Kasama mayoral by-elections were marred by irregularities, which they fear could recur in the forthcoming polls.
Meanwhile, Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Acting Executive Director Patrick Kaumba said ECZ has the capacity to deliver credible elections.
He emphasized that adequate funding, sufficient resources, and enhanced stakeholder engagement are critical to strengthening public trust and ensuring transparency.
