Mufulira District Commissioner Evaristo Chilumba has issued a stern warning to schools in Mufulira District over the alleged mismanagement of school grants, describing the practice as a serious breach of government financial regulations.
Speaking during a meeting with head teachers at Mufulira Mine Primary School, Mr. Chilumba cautioned that any misuse of school grants contravenes established government standards and will not be tolerated.
He directed schools and individuals involved in the alleged malpractice to immediately desist from the conduct, stressing that public funds must be used strictly for their intended educational purposes.
The District Commissioner further urged the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) office to strengthen oversight mechanisms, including ensuring that teachers’ financial records are thoroughly audited before transfers are effected.
Meanwhile, Mufulira District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Mutale Mwalu has assured the District Commissioner and members of the public that her office will implement strict measures to safeguard school grants.
Dr. Mwalu emphasized that her office remains committed to promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. She has since called on head teachers and teachers to adhere to established financial guidelines and uphold professional ethics in the execution of their duties.
