Milner Katolo Decries Inaction on Corruption, Calls for Stronger Accountability Measures

By Anthony Chomba,

Zambia Must Prosper Party Vice President – Milner Katolo

Opposition Zambia Must Prosper Party Vice President, Milner Katolo, has raised serious concerns over the lack of decisive action against corruption and the misappropriation of public funds in Zambia, despite repeated adverse reports from the Auditor General’s Office.

Speaking to Mafken News in Lusaka, Mr. Katolo said the Public Accounts Committee has consistently flagged financial irregularities, yet many officials implicated in corruption have faced no meaningful consequences, with some reportedly being reinstated without the recovery of misappropriated funds.

He welcomed the introduction of a five-month timeframe for the conclusion of corruption-related cases but questioned whether the measure would be effectively implemented and enforced.

Mr. Katolo called for stronger institutional frameworks, enhanced transparency, and robust accountability mechanisms to curb corruption in the country.

He further proposed amendments to economic, criminal, and procedural laws as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and promoting good governance in Zambia.
