MISA Zambia National Director, – Austin Kayanda

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter has urged radio stations to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool for transmitting and disseminating information more effectively.

Speaking in an interview with Mafken News while marking this year’s World Radio Day, under the theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence,” MISA Zambia National Director, Austine Kayanda, described AI as unavoidable in today’s evolving media landscape.

Mr. Kayanda, however, stressed that Artificial Intelligence cannot replace human beings, but should instead be used to support their work. He noted that AI systems require human supervision and direction to function effectively and ethically.

He emphasized that human interaction remains essential in broadcasting, adding that the strong connection between presenters and listeners cannot be replaced by automated systems.

Mr. Kayanda encouraged journalists and radio stations to adopt AI tools to improve information gathering, enhance efficiency, and tailor content to better meet audience needs, while maintaining the human element at the core of broadcasting.
