By Morgan Choma,
Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) Chief Executive Officer Brightone Tembo has accused the government of what he describes as deliberate and calculated negligence in relation to the reported funding and operational challenges facing the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
In a statement made available to Mafken News, Mr. Tembo said that over the past three years, the FIC has exposed unprecedented levels of corruption, which he claims have undermined the narrative of a corruption-free government and caused embarrassment to the authorities.
Mr. Tembo further alleged that the current administration is seeking to conceal its own alleged corruption, while using what he termed a compromised Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to pursue individuals who served under the previous regime, as well as citizens without political influence or protection.
He also argued that the challenges facing the FIC go beyond funding constraints, citing what he described as a lack of action by law enforcement agencies and the government on reports submitted by the Centre over the last three years.
According to Mr. Tembo, many of the reports have remained unattended, raising concerns about accountability and the fight against corruption.
