Political scientist Dr. Alex Ng’oma has predicted that opposition political parties in Zambia will eventually rally behind a single candidate to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema in the upcoming August 2026 General Elections.
Dr. Ngoma dismissed the notion that the opposition is too weak to mount a formidable challenge, emphasizing that a general election is ultimately a contest between the people and the ruling party of the day.
He further argued that factors such as sympathy and emotion cannot serve as reliable indicators of electoral outcomes, noting that voters typically base their decisions on deeper issues such as economic performance, corruption, the rule of law among others.
