Chililabombwe DC Calls for Increased Energy Investment Under PCEI

Chililabombwe District Commissioner – Kelly Jibinga

Chililabombwe District Commissioner Kelly Jibinga has called for increased investment in the energy sector as the district prepares to implement the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative (PCEI).

The initiative directs all 156 constituencies to construct a two-megawatt solar power plant, aimed at boosting electricity generation and contributing to the national grid through ZESCO.

Leading a team of stakeholders on a site visit in Kakoso, Mr. Jibinga confirmed that the district has identified three hectares of land for the solar power project. He noted that the intervention is intended to help address power supply challenges experienced during periods of drought.

Mr. Jibinga further encouraged private investors to take advantage of an additional 12 hectares of land that have been set aside beyond the required three hectares, saying this presents an opportunity to expand investment in renewable energy and support local development.

Meanwhile, Acting Town Clerk Dr. Chembo Shamilando reaffirmed the Local Authority’s readiness to implement the project, disclosing that a team comprising the contractor will visit the site on Thursday, 29th January 2026 to begin preliminary works.

And a Local resident Nzila Mvula welcomed the development, saying the solar plant will help cushion the effects of the energy crisis by providing an alternative power source.
She also appealed to farmers cultivating on the designated land to cooperate with authorities to pave way for the project.
