Zambia Inflation Falls to 9.4% in January, First Single-Digit Since 2024

Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) Acting Statistician General Sheila Mudenda

Zambia’s annual inflation rate has dropped to 9.4 percent in January 2026, returning to single-digit territory for the first time since early 2024.

Addressing journalists in Lusaka, Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) Acting Statistician General Sheila Mudenda described the decline from 11.2 percent in December as a sign of sustained disinflationary momentum.

She explained that the slowdown was driven by easing price pressures across both food and non-food categories, noting that the latest figures reflect broader stability in consumer prices.
