The Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) has expressed disappointment with the Auditor General’s and Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) reports, stating that they are no longer effective tools in the fight against corruption.
CAAC Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Brightone Tembo, told Mafken News that the handling of the reports for possible prosecution and punishment of offenders lies with law enforcement agencies, which he claims appear compromised and selective in addressing corruption cases.
Mr. Tembo noted that the Auditor General’s and FIC reports have steadily lost relevance, describing them as academic and ceremonial documents that end up being discussed at Public Accounts Committee meetings and highlighted in the media without leading to concrete action.
He expressed concern that despite being produced at a high public cost, the reports rarely result in tangible outcomes.
Mr. Tembo further observed that government ministries continue to disregard the Auditor General’s recommendations on procurement procedures and public resource management, leading to repeated financial irregularities.
He has since urged law enforcement agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Commission, to take the reports seriously and institute decisive action against individuals implicated in corrupt practices.
