MUFULIRA COUNCIL TO ENGAGE FRANCHISE WASTE COLLECTOR TO CURB ILLEGAL DUMPING

By Kalonje Mumba

Mufulira Municipal Council has announced plans to engage a franchise waste collector before the end of the current quarter in a bid to address persistent illegal garbage dumping in Chibolya Township.

Public Health Director Paul Mukuka said the decision follows concerns raised by residents, who reported that indiscriminate waste disposal has continued despite recent clean-up operations conducted by the council.

Speaking to Mafken News, Mr. Mukuka explained that the franchise waste collector will operate on behalf of the local authority and is expected to strengthen waste collection and overall sanitation management in the area.

He added that the council is working closely with Ward Development Committees to sensitize residents on proper waste disposal practices and promote community responsibility.

Mr. Mukuka also issued a stern warning to offenders, stating that individuals found dumping garbage illegally will be penalized, with fines ranging from K1,500 to K5,000.
