POLICE ASSURE JOURNALISTS OF PROTECTION AMIDST ELECTION CONCERNS

Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Mwala Yuyi, has assured journalists of protection from violence during the upcoming 2026 general elections.

This assurance comes amidst concerns of attacks on journalists in the line of duty, particularly from cadres of various political parties.

Speaking in an interview with Mafken news, Mr. Yuyi says the police are committed to maintaining law and order, and will take action against anyone perpetuating violence against journalists.

He stated that, the police’s commitment to protecting journalists is crucial in ensuring that the media can freely report on elections without fear of intimidation or violence.

Recently, Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) President Andrew Sakala urged the police to ensure journalists’ safety during the August polls.
