Zambia Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) has invested more than US$800,000 in modern fertiliser manufacturing and blending technology, significantly boosting the company’s production capacity.

The investment includes a new granulation plant and a state-of-the-art blending facility, now the largest of its kind in the country.

Speaking in Mansa, NCZ Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Chanda Mongo, said the upgraded facilities have addressed previous challenges related to frequent equipment breakdowns and inconsistent fertiliser quality.

Mr. Mongo noted that traditional one-size-fits-all fertilizer formulations are no longer effective due to varying soil nutrient compositions across regions.

He added that NCZ now operates an advanced laboratory to test soil samples and recommend customised fertiliser blends tailored to specific soil needs. The company has also piloted a programme in Kawambwa District, providing fertiliser on credit to farmers who supply maize to the Food Reserve Agency.

Looking ahead, Mr. Mongo said NCZ plans to scale up the initiative and collaborate with local authorities and farmers to develop a rice-specific fertilizer blend, aiming to tap into Luapula Province’s potential for rice and other high-value crops.
