NAQEZ Calls for Independent Audit of Free Education Grants Citing Alleged Abuse

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has demanded an immediate end to what it describes as the abuse of free education grants within the Ministry of Education.
NAQEZ Executive Director Dr. Aaron Chansa accused senior officials of diverting funds meant for teaching and learning towards workshops, meetings and other activities that do not directly benefit learners.
In a statement to Mafken News, Dr Chansa says that similar concerns were raised in 2023, warning that continued misuse of school grants undermines the spirit of the free education policy and erodes public trust.
He stressed that head teachers should not be blamed, alleging that many are pressured by higher authorities to redirect funds.
He has since called for an independent audit of school grants, protection of head teachers from coercion and prosecution of officials found abusing public education funds.
