Mufulira District Commissioner Evaristo Chilumba has called on residents to turn out in large numbers for the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s upcoming delimitation meeting scheduled for February 23rd, 2026.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, Mr. Chilumba described the boundary review process as a critical exercise that could significantly shape the district’s development trajectory.
He said active public participation is essential, urging residents to make submissions and fully engage with the Commission to ensure their views are captured.
The District Commissioner noted that the creation of additional constituencies could translate into increased Constituency Development Fund allocations, which would enhance service delivery and improve livelihoods in the district.
Mr. Chilumba has also appealed for calm and unity throughout the process, encouraging residents to respect and accept the final outcome, even if it does not reflect individual expectations.
The meeting forms part of the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s nationwide delimitation consultations.
Meanwhile, Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) has cautioned political players and stakeholders against undermining the Electoral Commission of Zambia, stressing that the delimitation exercise is a constitutional mandate.

Speaking to Mafken News, GODAZA Executive Director Elias Mulenga said the ECZ derives its authority from Article 229 of the Constitution, which empowers it to manage electoral matters independently.
Mr. Mulenga emphasized that the nationwide delimitation process, set to commence on February 16, 2026, is being conducted in accordance with Article 230(1) of the Constitution and the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016.
He warned that attempts to discredit the Commission for political mileage or social media attention are not only irresponsible but unconstitutional.
Mr. Mulenga further reminded citizens that delimitation reports are public documents and reflect submissions made by communities across the country.
