MUFULIRA RESIDENTS DEMAND TERMINATION OF BRIDGE CONTRACTOR OVER DELAYS AND SAFETY CONCERNS,
By Kaziwe Napanje,
Residents of Kantanshi and Mufulira Central constituencies have called for the immediate termination of the contractor working on the bridge linking the two areas, citing prolonged delays in completion and its poor condition following recent flooding.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, the residents expressed concern for their safety, stating that the flooded bridge has disrupted daily movement and posed serious risks, particularly to school-going children.
They explained that the temporary alternative crossing is also prone to flooding during the rainy season, making it difficult and dangerous for people traveling early in the morning for work, school, and other activities.
Meanwhile, site supervisor Davies Chola acknowledged the challenges affecting the project but assured residents that the bridge is expected to be completed within the next two months.
