Mufulira, Zambia — The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has honoured Mafken FM Radio and Television of Mufulira with two prestigious awards, naming the station the Most Resilient Media House and Most Improved Station on the Copperbelt for 2025.
The recognition forms part of the IBA’s 2025 Media Excellence Awards, which celebrate broadcasters across the country that have demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and growth in an increasingly challenging media environment.
According to the IBA, Mafken FM distinguished itself through its ability to remain operational, relevant, and impactful despite economic and operational challenges facing the broadcasting sector. The authority cited the station’s consistent service delivery, strong community-focused programming, and commitment to informing and educating the public as key factors behind the awards.
The IBA noted that resilience has become a critical attribute for regional media houses, particularly those operating at community level, where resources are often limited but public demand for accurate and timely information remains high.
Meanwhile, the authority also announced Most Improved Media House Awards in other provinces, recognizing broadcasters that recorded notable progress in innovation, growth, and improved operational standards during the past year.
The IBA said the awards are intended to motivate broadcasters to uphold professionalism, embrace innovation, and continue serving communities with accurate, balanced, and timely information.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of Zambia’s broadcasting sector through effective regulation, capacity building, and continued recognition of excellence in the media industry.
