Students from various higher learning institutions on the Copperbelt have endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema as their preferred presidential candidate in the August 13 general elections.
The endorsement was made at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe, where the Head of State addressed students drawn from across the province.
The students attributed their support to what they described as significant progress made in improving the welfare of learners in public universities and colleges.
They cited the reinstatement of meal allowances, increased accommodation allowances, and enhanced student bursaries as key interventions that have directly benefited them.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Copperbelt University Students Union President Given Chipewo said the measures undertaken by the President reflect a strong commitment to the education sector and responsiveness to student concerns.
In response, President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising education and youth empowerment, stating that investing in students remains central to national development.
He further urged students to support his candidature in the upcoming polls to ensure continuity of development initiatives.
