ZRA Intercepts K7.8 Million Smuggled Cigarette Consignment

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted 800 cases of smuggled cigarettes with a total tax value of K7.8 million.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala said the seizure followed a high-level surveillance operation conducted by alert enforcement officers.

He explained that the contraband—Vikings brand cigarettes—was concealed in a South African-registered truck bearing registration number LZ 46 TN GP.

Mr Nzala added that the truck entered Zambia through the Chirundu One-Stop Border Post and was allegedly in transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He said the interception forms part of ZRA’s ongoing efforts to curb revenue leakage and protect the local economy from the negative effects of illicit trade.
