People’s Pact Drags Government to Court Over Delimitation

People’s Pact Vice President for Strategy – Peter Sinkamba

The People’s Pact has taken the Government to the Constitutional Court over its decision to create 226 new constituencies, with less than eight months to the general election, citing serious constitutional concerns and the risk of electoral confusion.

Speaking to the media in Kitwe, People’s Pact Vice President for Strategy, Peter Sinkamba, said the delimitation process is being rushed by the UPND Government, prompting the party to seek judicial intervention.

Mr. Sinkamba alleged that the move is a calculated attempt to influence the electoral landscape — popularly known as “imingalato” — through last-minute constituency creations.

He further warned that the phasing out of the existing 156 constituencies, without proper systems and structures in place for the new ones, has the potential to cause chaos during the elections.

Mr. Sinkamba also argued that the UPND should have first repealed and replaced Article 68 of the Constitution, which currently establishes the 156 constituencies, before initiating any delimitation process.
