Small-scale businesses in Lusaka say improved electricity supply is helping them recover from months of economic strain caused by power disruptions.
Between May 2024 and September 2025, frequent power outages severely affected operations in markets, salons, barbershops and workshops, leading to reduced working hours and loss of income for entrepreneurs who rely on electricity.
However, traders now report a noticeable improvement in power supply, with business activity picking up across several markets in the capital.
The sound of running machinery and hair clippers has returned, as small-scale entrepreneurs say the more stable electricity supply is allowing them to operate consistently and rebuild their livelihoods.
