Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga says there is no justification for only a few brands reducing prices, noting that inflation has remained in single digits and production costs have eased.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka this afternoon, Mr. Mulenga urged more companies to follow suit, citing government reforms and improved economic conditions that have lowered the cost of doing business.
The Minister welcomed recent price reductions by 30 companies, including manufacturers of mealie meal, bread, and cooking oil, with cuts ranging between 5 and 20 percent.
He said the reductions are a clear indication of improving economic fundamentals and the positive impact of government reforms.
Mr. Mulenga further stated that under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the government has implemented measures aimed at stabilizing the economy and expects the gains to increasingly translate into lower household costs and improved living standards.
