Permanent Secretary for Technical Services in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Nicholas Phiri, says a newly introduced information system will enhance transparency in the revised Cash for Work Programme.
Mr. Phiri says the system has been designed to allow officers to operate both online and offline, ensuring seamless data collection and management even in remote areas with limited internet connectivity.
He was speaking in Lusaka during the official opening of the orientation workshop for principal officers on the Cash for Work Programme.
Mr. Phiri explained that the enhanced system addresses previous administrative challenges by enabling real-time identification of beneficiaries who have already received payments and those still awaiting assistance. He said this will prevent duplicate entries and double payments, ensuring fair distribution of resources.
He further noted that the system will streamline workflow and eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that affected the earlier version of the programme.
Meanwhile, Mr. Phiri urged local authorities to uphold the integrity of the initiative, emphasizing that the programme’s core objective is to empower vulnerable members of the community.
