The Mufulira Municipal Council has urged wholesalers in the district to stop selling expired products or goods nearing their expiry dates, warning that such practices endanger public health.

Council Public Health Director, Paul Mukuka, says the local authority on 29th January 2026 held a meeting with wholesalers to address issues of compliance and the proper handling of consumable goods.

Mr. Mukuka explained that the sale of expired products is a criminal offence and a direct violation of the laws of the land, stressing that offenders risk facing legal action.

He emphasized that business owners have a responsibility to ensure that only safe, quality, and compliant products are sold to consumers.

Mr. Mukuka further called on wholesalers to put in place effective stock-monitoring systems to easily identify and remove products that are close to expiry, adding that the council will continue conducting inspections to enforce compliance.
