Mopani Copper Mines Employees Secure 12% Salary Increment

By Rogan Labika,

The United Mine Workers Union of Zambia (UMUZ) has confirmed that mine unions have officially signed a 12 percent salary increment agreement for employees at Mopani Copper Mines.

In an interview with Mafken News, UMUZ President Wisdom Ngwira acknowledged that while employee expectations were high, the unions settled on 12 percent following intensive negotiations and anticipated challenges cited by Mopani management.

Despite the gap between the initial demands and the final figure, Mr. Ngwira assured union members that leadership remains committed to the cause.

He emphasized that the union will continue to engage management in future dialogues to push for higher increments.

As a result of this agreement, Mopani employees are expected to see a salary increase of over 1,000 Kwacha across the board.
