Local Govt Minister Calls for Partnerships to Turn Waste into Energy and Recyclables
By Anthony Chomba,

Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Gift Sialubalo, says Government is seeking strategic partners to transform waste into productive recycled materials and sustainable energy.
Mr. Sialubalo disclosed that Lusaka alone generates approximately 1,200 tonnes of waste per day, of which only 40 percent is currently being recycled.
He made the remarks in Lusaka when a delegation of investors from the United Arab Emirates paid a courtesy call on him.
The Minister noted that about 60 percent of the city’s waste ends up at dump sites, despite its potential to be used productively through proper waste management systems.
He urged the investors to seize the opportunity to invest in waste-to-energy and recycling initiatives, adding that such partnerships could contribute to environmental protection, job creation, and sustainable urban development.
