Kitwe Residents praise ZCSA efforts on packaged water safety
Residents of Kitwe district, have hailed the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA)’s efforts to efforts to ensure the safety of packaged water on the market.
Speaking to Mafken News, Beauty Musonda and Juliet Mulenga said consumers value the peace of mind that comes with knowing the water they drink is safe.
They noted that many residents now pay closer attention to packaging integrity and expiry dates before buying packaged water.
Another resident, Mary Mwila, urged shop owners to take responsibility by stocking only packaged water that meets ZCSA standards. Kalumba Mwewa, on the other hand, raised concern over the continued presence of unlabelled packaged water on the market, which he said puts consumers at risk.
Some residents admitted they were not fully aware of the agency’s role.
Emmanuel Chanda called on ZCSA to intensify public sensitisation so that consumers can better understand which products are regulated and why it matters.
Meanwhile, ZCSA Communications and Public Relations Manager Brian Hatyoka assured consumers that the agency remains committed to protecting public health.
He said ZCSA will continue monitoring products on the market and engaging stakeholders to ensure compliance with compulsory standards.
