Kitwe District Commissioner Oncemore Ngonomo has warned councilors and Ward Development Committee (WDC) members against including friends and relatives on beneficiary lists for the cash-for-work programme at the expense of vulnerable households.
Speaking during a stakeholder orientation meeting on the Revised Cash for Work Program, Mr. Ngonomo expressed concern over poor coordination between some councilors and WDC chairpersons, stressing that the program is meant to support families struggling to meet basic needs.
He urged councilors to actively participate in committee meetings, understand the challenges in their wards, and prioritize the most vulnerable, warning that failure to work together undermines the program’s objectives.
