Kantanshi Aspirant Pledges Milling Plant for Border Areas

By Rogan Labika,

Aspiring candidate for Kantanshi Constituency Dr. Mukwenya Ng’andu has pledged to lobby for a milling plant to be established in the constituency’s border areas.

He said the move aims to address mealie meal scarcity caused by current purchase and movement restrictions.

Dr. Ng’andu noted that residents in border communities including Mokambo, Orashio, Kasombo, and Murundu face significant challenges in accessing the staple food due to restrictions enforced by the Zambia National Service (ZNS), which are intended to prevent the smuggling of the commodity into the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to Dr. Ng’andu, the only sustainable solution to this recurring problem is to install a milling plant in close proximity to these frontline communities.

If elected as Member of Parliament for Kantanshi in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections, Dr. Ng’andu has committed to making the installation of this facility a priority.
